I got sick as hell over the weekend, it was brutal.
Anyway, that did not prevent us from adopting at least some of your feedback, and we have applied it to the maps in the new Deep Carbon Observatory. So here you go.
You can click on the maps for high-res jpegs, probably most useful for the Dam map.
And apologies to Dirk again, we dulled his colours and Scrap made extensive alterations/additions.
The Drowned Lands
The Dam
And the Observatory
You can give feedback but we are getting close to the point where we are just going to go with what we have...
I'd love Vtt-versions sans numbers/keys/Spoilers as an additional tool; or layered maps. Just my 2 cents!
ReplyDeleteHow do you even do this kind of map for VTTs? I want to run this, but gut no idea how

ReplyDeleteI was a huge fan of old maps, and i love them still. But this is... Wow. The Drowned-lands-as-a-dungeon thing is so good i fail finding words. It convey this claustrophobic, doomed mood, mapping outer lands! The dam is dope, and, as it took me a little to wrap my mind around the whole thing the first time i player DCO, i think is a much needed add on. The Observatory itself is perfect. To be able to see thewhole place just in one glance is a good thing, perhaps even better than building my rappresentation studing the text and the old sketchy map. I by myself thought the bridge to be far slimmer
These are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteBut I want to echo Endzeitgeist and Self Portrait as a Giant's calls for some text free map images (in addition, not instead of these maps). I play on Roll20, where I copy maps from PDFs add then use fog of war to gradually reveal the map.
When there's writing on a map, I have to try to erase it and it winds up being ugly.
From the original I've never understood where the chain in the observatory leads to since the observatory looks through solid rock. Will this be expanded upon?
ReplyDeleteAlso it has been difficult to understand why the water remains so long From the original maps it is also difficult to understand why the water stays around so long in the drowned lands. It seems like the water would very quickly disperse when it reached the sea. I'm happy to suspend disbelief due to the amazing story quality, however it still sticks in my mind which searches for an explanation like the entire valley is oddly lower than the sea which is above the height of the drowned valley yet has never filled it up with sea water.
The chain leads down to an island in the Nightmare sea but no we won't be doing any more on that.
DeleteThe flood took place the night before the adventure begins. I don't know how long it takes flood waters to recede but it seems reasonable to think it might take a few days.
Thank you!
DeleteYou mentioned a Kickstarter in a previous post...? Is there anywhere I can sign up to be notified about it when it starts?!
ReplyDeleteIt'll be here or my twitter or facebook.
Deletebig fan of the first edition but what we have here is an amazing improvement; i always had hard time figuring out the geography of events ! great job
ReplyDeleteHi, love the cartography, really brilliant. The high res versions don't appear still work. thanks.
