Very cool interview! I posted this under the video as well but I want to remark here as well that you are kind of underrepresented in the interview space for such a prolific author. It really contributes to self-promotion while at the same time providing your fans with a window into your mind and creative process. You should do those more often provided people ask for them. :)
A good interview from a guy who's clearly passionate about the stuff. I liked the discussion about character death in particular. There is definitely that delicate, ideal balance between naturalistic randomness and heroic triumph that makes the game land emotionally - being able to stack the deck in your favour with cleverness without ever reaching 100% certainty of victory.

ReplyDeleteAlso, for what it's worth, the random cave generation was one of my favorite parts in the book. I keep coming back to it and re-reading it.
