About 20 years after the collection was published that day was made a public holiday for that reason in the United States, so it was obviously on the minds of the public at the time. Plus he is called out by name in the first stanza.

Here is another poem on the same subject with an almost identical name.
http://www.bartleby.com/297/101.html

jbeltmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02264520619277158883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4522018539311056682.post-10400812856604737112017-05-16T23:09:05.500-07:002017-05-16T23:09:05.500-07:00Thank you very much.Thank you very much.jbeltmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02264520619277158883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4522018539311056682.post-85014528530527693962017-05-15T23:58:33.201-07:002017-05-15T23:58:33.201-07:00I'm sorry no source is given, the closest I co...I'm sorry no source is given, the closest I could find on google was here https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Discourse_of_Theology/Of_the_Function_of_a_Teacher_of_Religion_in_these_Times but even there its a quote.pjamesstuarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13288777018721199748noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4522018539311056682.post-49892044410257688422017-05-15T23:27:04.145-07:002017-05-15T23:27:04.145-07:00Hi Patrick,
