The aesthetics of ruin would probably be related to an above-average level of neuroticism, which correlates with depression and anxiety, and OSR-ness seems to imply a degree of cantankerousness, thing-orientation and "let them fail" attitude, all of which characterize Disagreeableness (with Agreeableness indicating "interest in people").

Open to Experience, Neurotic, Disagreeable. Not a common orientation, and maybe that's why there's been such distinct and original work happening in this milieu. I saw some of Scrap Princess's most recent commissions the other day and as always they just magnetic.

Sharing these traits is a UK band called Chemtrails, whose work gels IMO with the Artpunk aesthetic in both sound and a lot of their lyrics; toxic wastelands with people surviving in a panicked and mutated but slightly whimsical state, love-pacts with aberrations; the vocalist sounds like one of these creatures with the attendant acidity. I find it very very interesting, and I don't know who does their album cover art, but they're good. They are often the soundtrack in my mind when I engage with you and Scrap's work.

Recommended:
"Aeons" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Trd4PwH85R8

"A Beautiful Cog in the Monolithic Death Machine" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoqvWH0-wpQ

"A Killer or a Punchline" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFqBbCpc3DU

"Naked Souls Get Swallowed" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hf1JDrxaln4

"Suck My Mind" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNJ5obtsh8s

"Burnt Shadows" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBjP3kbY4P0

"Blurred Visions" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osh0PmWuE3c&list=OLAK5uy_l2ocY4E34a6bI5rfKsrDzJ8HzRzHSIGkA

"Brother Connor" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYfA6D0TX5o&list=OLAK5uy_l2ocY4E34a6bI5rfKsrDzJ8HzRzHSIGkA&index=9

"Slag Heap Deity 2" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gKHoB7BDhk&list=OLAK5uy_l2ocY4E34a6bI5rfKsrDzJ8HzRzHSIGkA&index=11

Some part of me feels that CthulhuTech's feel was kind of in this vein; brutal, hopeless, and originalHer Christmas Knighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09445850026904816000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4522018539311056682.post-13407910592205984242019-02-12T21:03:55.171-08:002019-02-12T21:03:55.171-08:00i feel like DCC is like big Image comics and artpu...i feel like DCC is like big Image comics and artpunk is like indie comics. like they’re pretty close, really, but they feel very different and their differences can be traced back to economic interests (company size like you said) and DCC’s requirement to please a much broader audience.awsomedudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03451612031740134609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4522018539311056682.post-82003237634378639522018-12-12T14:28:52.577-08:002018-12-12T14:28:52.577-08:00Not sure if intented, but I read it as an embrace ...Not sure if intented, but I read it as an embrace of picaresque randomized emergent narratives from the players' side.

Wow I put too many buzzwords in thereJanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16396777239643415164noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4522018539311056682.post-54522913606656768252018-12-11T05:31:36.916-08:002018-12-11T05:31:36.916-08:00No, I agree pretty much entirely. The radical sectarians in the OSR aren't wrong about that. There's simply no shared life together or wider common purpose or moral values that can reasonably define a boundary, which means it's in the stricter sense an emotivist statement. (Think MacIntyre on the self-fulfilling nature of emotivism.) There is only the shared hobby, open to a massive legitimacy crisis debate.

Now, re Patrick's post, you can literally see those "artpunk" writers who collaborate as a microcommunity, though serving relatively few of the functions of concrete communities.

You probably disagree, though!Owen Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02033345001593862263noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4522018539311056682.post-10308453841316122592018-12-08T06:13:51.608-08:002018-12-08T06:13:51.608-08:00I think those who are inclined to describe it as &...I think those who are inclined to describe it as "a community" use that word tactically as a way to exclude people they don't like: "People holding such-and-such views have no place in this community".
